Pictures of Old Fauldhouse
Bridge Street, Fauldhouse
This view of Bridge Street was published as a postcard for Cartwright, the Fauldhouse stationer, and was taken in the early 1900's.
Bridge Street was one of the main steets in the village, leading to the bridge over the Breich Water at Greenburn. The houses are a mixture of miners' rows and two and three storey tenaments built for private rent, which were eventually demolished and replaced with council housing due to over-crowding and the sub-standard nature of the buildings. This photograph from the 1930's shows the parade as it marched down Sheephousehill. The building to the top left of the photograph was the central office and shops of Crofthead Co-operative Society Limited.
The banner held by the boys in the centre of the photograph read "Co-operate Don't Hesitate" and was designed to encourage members of the local community to join their society. This photograph was restored and tinted by Craig A Hunter © 2005 http://www.digiart.freeserve.co.uk/categories/restoration/fauldhouse.htm
